IZMIR 

The pearl of Aegean, the city of İzmir, historically Smyrna is located in western Turkey. The country’s third largest city and one of its largest ports.

The city's coastline is known for its seafood restaurants along the coast as well as its cafes, restaurants serving Aegean Cuisine and other leisure facilities, while the hinterland is rich in ruins and monuments that tell the stories of countless ancient civilizations.

It is home to important cultural heritages such as the Ephesus, Pergamum, and Sardes and a significant port city like Kuşadası. 

EPHESUS

Ephesus - The ruins of Ephesus is 18km away from Kuşadası and it is one of the best preserved ancient cities of the world. It was built by Attic and Ionian Greek colonists in the 10BC and it is a very important UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site. The city was famed for the nearby Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World which drew pilgrims from all around the Mediterranean.

Since the 5th century, the House of the Virgin Mary, a domed cruciform chapel seven kilometres from Ephesus, became a major place of Christian pilgrimage. The Ancient City of Ephesus is an outstanding example of a Roman port city, with sea channel and harbour basin. 

It was one of the seven churches of Asia Minor.
